Advantages and Disadvantages of Non Heated Carpet Cleaners

Hot water and steam are powerful cleaning agents that can enhance almost any cleaning task, particularly in the case of carpet extractors. Non heated carpet shampoo machines, however, have advantages as well.

First, a non heated carpet extractor is cheaper than one featuring heating components. In addition, if proper precautions are not taken, the high temperature levels of heated machines can damage certain fabrics such as wool rugs. Some carpets are held together by adhesive, which might melt under high temperatures.

Apart from temperature range, there are not many differences between heated and non heated carpet cleaners. Auto detailing carpet cleaning machines with no heat can produce pressure levels of 220 psi and extraction capabilities (150 inch water lift and 200 cfm airflow) to provide complete cleaning, like their heated counterparts. For occasional cleaning tasks where hot water is necessary, you can add preheated water to the solution tank.

While non heated systems do provide advanced cleaning power, they have their disadvantages. Simply, they cannot provide the same level of cleaning power as carpet shampooers generating water up to 210°F. Low temperature cleaning also lengthens drying times. As such, purchasing a machine with low flow technology to minimize drying times is key. A non heated system with low flow technology offers drying times of around 6 hours, while heated machines boast drying times as low as 2 hours.

Mobile car detailing businesses, for example, may opt for non heated carpet cleaners because they are compact and take up less space on the trailer. In addition, they may not require the additional cleaning power afforded by heat. However, top suppliers offer both non heated and heated carpet shampoo machines fitted with specialized upholstery wands for a range of interior auto detailing applications.

If you are running a carpet cleaning business where you handle all kinds of carpets, the safest and most cost effective option would be to invest in a heated carpet extractor that features a cold water option. This enables operators to utilize heat for advanced power as needed, but to also use cold water on heat sensitive fibers.

Remember, no matter what type of carpet cleaner your purchase, always opt for machines with advanced low flow technology to ensure optimal productivity and the fastest drying times.
